Gernrode Records?

Hello, all. I have traced one line of my ancestors to Gernrode, Saxony-Anhalt in the timeframe 1770-1870 (details follow). Does anyone know of an address to email to try to obtain more information? This is probably unlikely because I have no dates. Members here sometimes know of other sources of information that I am not aware of. I am happy to page through church books, but I do not find any available.

Emilie Wilhelmine Leopoldine Luise HANKEL was born in Calbe (Saale) in 1826. Her father is David Wilhelm HANKEL and her mother is Leopoldine Wilhelmine Christine STOTZER. One of Emilie's godparents is August STOTZER (in 1826, he is living in Gernrode and is the grandfather of baptized Emilie).

In addition, Emilie's death record in 1897 states that her mother (Leopoldine STOTZER) was previously deceased in Gernrode.

So I am seeking information on the STOTZER family who have ties to Gernrode.

Does anyone have advice or experience researching Gernrode? Thank you for reading.

Regards,

Ellen

Can it really be taken for granted that

"Gernrode, Saxony-Anhalt"

is the correct place for further research?

There are:

1) Gernrode near Ballenstedt, today part of the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anahlt = Gernrode (Harz)

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadt_Gernrode

and

2) Gernrode near Breitenworbis, today in the German state Thuringia = Gernrode (Eichsfeld)

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gernrode_(Eichsfeld)

However, regardless which place "Gernrode" is concerned: no church registers have been digitized so far and nothing is online available as of yet.

You may consider to contact a non-profit genealogical society

https://amf-verein.de/

Arbeitsgemeinschaft für mitteldeutsche Familienforschung e.V.

in order to learn if they / their members may be able to help.

Or you need to contact the parish offices directly in order to ask for help.
Be aware that charges apply for their help.

Good luck,
Vera

BTW: I trust the family name "Stotzer" needs to read "Stötzer" - with an umlauted "o". In order to correctly replace it, please use "oe" and not a simple "o". Thank you.

Thank you for your replies and the links. A death record for one of my ancestors states that he was born in "Gernrode in Anhalt." I was assuming this is the Gernrode that is located near Quedlinburg.

But to be honest, I did not realize there was another Gernrode near Breitenworbis.

Also, I apologize for not writing the Stoetzer name correctly.

Without approximate dates and without online records, I feel I will have to stop researching this family for now.

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,

Ellen
