Johann Nikolas Baumann

I need help with a translation of link please: http://www.archion.de/p/e06c22b967/ I think it is an index to births what does the 41 mean that he was born in 1841 in Nassig or is it a page number.
I can't find the birth entry as I do not read old German Script.

Many thanks for any assistance,

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth,

this is a "Mischbuch" - a mixed book. It begins with christenings, followed by marriages from *image* 105 on (*page* 203). Image 141 (*page 361*) is the first page with burials, image 219 the first page of indexes.
There seem to be blank pages left out between marriages and burials, the page count jumps from 311 to 361.

In the index, the numbers given are page numbers - you can see at the top the abbreviation "Pag." meaning (latin) pagina = page. The first column tells the page number in the register of christenings, the second the page in marriages, the last column the page in burials.

There are only three entries on page 41 - keep on trying! I have made some experience in reading the old script, but this is (for me) in fact difficult. Small handwriting, very oblique (correct term???), weathered paper.
It might help to see that the entries follow a scheme and that the wording is always similar. The first entry begins with "Den siebenten Mai ist abends um 6 Uhr geboren zu Nassig und heute nachmittags um 4 Uhr in der Kirche getauft worden".

Good luck!
Susanne

Hi Elizabeth,
I think what I saw as a 'g' in the mother´s maiden name wasn´t a 'g' after all. I´m quite sure her name was Spatz(in) and one of the witnesses was Johann Michael Spatz.

Angelika

Thank you Angelika for your time and especially for the transcription & translation. I learn a little more each time I research these German records.

It is great that Archion have so many church books online, it makes it easier for everyone to help each other.

Hallo again,

I have found another birth for a Johann Nikolaus Baumann in December 1835 link: http://www.archion.de/p/90fba7a2b7/ Bild 62.page 116.

Could Angelika please translate this entry for me.

After further research the previously translated entry for a Johann Nikolaus Baumann born in 1829 appears to have married and died in Nassig. The person I am looking for migrated to Australia in 1858 married in 1858 in Australia and died in Australia in 1924.

Thank you for any assistance as I am trying to locate the correct birth

Hi Elizabeth,
I just found the maiden name of Margaretha Barbara: it´s Weimer, and she was born in 1763 on January 4th and died in 1831 on the 20th of November.
They were married on April 5th, 1785.

Angelika

Hello again,

Thank you for finding the correct name.

Sorry I have not replied before this I will try and find the death entries for Johann Nikolaus Baumann's parents when time permits.

I have just found the death of Johann Nikolaus'son Joseph Anthony Baumann aged only 29 in 1894 in Oakland California USA. A sad loss as all the family remained in Australia. It is not known why Joseph went to the USA.

You have been so helpful,

Elizabeth
