Records of Herford 1800s/1900s

Hello from the UK,

I am researching my ancestors from Herford. I am looking for a marriage record which would have taken place sometime between 1910-1920 in Herford. I know that they were of the Evangelical religion. However, unfortunately, I do not know which church they would have married at, and I note there are several in Herford.

Before I spend money on a pass, I was wondering how feasible it would be for me to look through the records of each parish for this time period? If there are simply thousands of entries, and I may not find the record, it may not be the best use of my time!

I would appreciate any guidance,

Thank you! :)

Good evening.

In case you tend to avoid manual research in historic church registers, as an initial step you could consider to contact a group of family researchers in Herford.

How feasible it is to work with church registers of course also depends on your ability to decipher historic German script.

Kind regards

Hi There- Thank you very much for that website, it is incredibly helpful!

I contacted the Westphalia Archives, but their email back said it may take up to four weeks for them to reply to me, so I wondered if it would be quicker to look myself in the meantime.

It looks like they do hold indexes of names for the registry office registers at the archives themselves, so they may be able to find this quicker than me manually searching.

Thanks :)

Thank you so much- and I've let the main Archives know.

I've now been able to go back another generation, all in the space of 24 hours!

Time to now research some other areas of Germany too...
