words for farmer

Bei meiner Untersuchung von Aufzeichnungen aus dem 18. und 19. Jahrhundert in Bayern habe ich mehrere verschiedene Wörter gefunden, die sich auf landwirtschaftliche Berufe beziehen: Taglöhner, Bauer, Beständner und Köbler. Was ist der Unterschied zwischen all diesen Begriffen? Sagt einer von ihnen etwas über die Größe des Hofes oder die Besitzverhältnisse auf dem Hof aus?

I do have a copy of his dictionary, but I don't find it quite detailed enough. For example, he calls Beständner a "farmer of a small farm." But he does not tell me that the Beständner usually held a long-term lease on the farm and typically was able to pass on the lease to his heirs. I learned that from a link in the website that Anne23 sent to me. So I am grateful to have the Forum!

I am really sorry, but it is kind of risky to generalize this as such; what holds true for a so-called: Erbbeständer - may not be correct for the group of the "regular" Beständer.


In addition meanings may vary depending on the region in which a word is used.
