The Regional Church Archive in Stuttgart is the central archive of the Protestant Church in Baden-Wurttemberg. It is in charge of the supervision of all archive matters and the storage of the archive material of the Wurttemberg Regional Church.
The Protestant Regional Church in Wurttemberg is located in the east of the federal state Baden-Wurttemberg and is therefore one of two Protestant regional churches in this state. It comprises the territory of the former state of Wurttemberg that existed until 1945.
Almost all church books of the Protestant Regional Church in Wurttemberg are stored in the archive. The church book database of the archive that is integrated into Archion and can be retrieved via the navigation (on the left) provides an overview of all filmed church books stored by the archive.
All older church books of the Protestant Regional Church in Wurttemberg up to the year 1875 have been filmed to protect the original documents. These filmings have been digitized by a service provider on behalf of the archive and are now available online on Archion.
Apart from the many books from the Wurttemberg parishes, church books from the realm of the hospital and military chaplaincies and a few expatriate congregations are registered online.
If you need a church book for your family research that is not (yet) recorded online with Archion, it is possible to research on site in the Regional Church Archive in Stuttgart. Microfilms of the church books until 1875 from all parishes of the Protestant Regional Church in Wurttemberg are available there for inspection. The films can be viewed at reading devices in the reading room of the archive.
Furthermore, secondary sources related to genealogy are available in the Central Library of the Regional Church in Stuttgart. Please find further information on the homepage of the Regional Church Archive: Familienforschung (elk-wue.de)
