Archive of the Protestant Church Berlin-Brandenburg Silesian Upper Lusatia

Landeskirchliches Archiv Berlin

The "Landeskirchliche Archiv in Berlin" (ELAB) administers the archive material of the Church Province Brandenburg, the former Prussian Regional Church, the former Protestant Church in Berlin-Brandenburg (EKiBB), and the current Protestant Church Berlin-Brandenburg Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO). Apart from the storage and utilization of the documents, the ELAB is responsible for the supervision of the archives of the church districts and parishes with the goal to preserve the cultural heritage of the church. This concerns both the historic documents and the historic church libraries.

Information on the Territory

The Protestant Church Berlin-Brandenburg Silesian Upper Lusatia mainly comprises the areas of the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg and the north-eastern part of Saxony. Thus, it is widely present in Berlin, Brandenburg, and the Silesian Upper Lusatia.

The Church Book Inventory of the Berlin Archive

Church Records from Berlin-Brandenburg Silesian Upper Lusatia Online

The inventory of the Regional Church Archive includes microfiches of more than 20,000 church records of the regional church from the Reformation until 1945. The original documents are largely stored in the parishes and in regional archives such as the Archive of the Cathedral Chapter in Brandenburg/Havel and in further archives of the church district.

What is Already Online with Archion?

The digitization of the microfilms by a service provider for the archive is finished with the exception of a few corrections. A large part of these digitized documents is already online with Archion: More than 13,000 church books from a total of 57 historic church districts are available online for your family research (status: June 2023). The inventory is being supplemented little by little.
