The future needs the the past - this is the motto of the central archive of the Protestant Church of Palatinate whose archival activities thus represent a cornerstone of the cultural and administrative work of the church.
The territory of the Protestant Church of Palatinate covers the historical area of Palatinate that belonged to Bavaria until 1945 and has been a part of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland since 1946.
Until 1968, it comprised the administrative district Palatinate, including several independent towns and rural districts of Rhineland-Palatinate. In the Saarland, the territory includes the Saarpfalz district (with a few exceptions) and further parts of Saarbrücken and Sulzbach as well as some communities that now belong to the district town St. Wendel.
All church records that are kept in the central archive and released for utilization are available online with Archion for your genealogical research. At the beginning of every new calendar year, further church records that are no longer subject to the protection period are uploaded. Due to Palatinate’s historical development, church records until 1798 are partly also kept in registry offices, town archives and in the state archive of Speyer.
You can view the digitized church books in the reading room during the archive’s opening hours. Please find further information on the homepage of the archive:
