The church records from the Saxonian Regional Church are usually kept in the respective congregations. The official acts and church pew registers of the parishes drawn up until 1875 are by and by being filmed by the Regional Church Archive Dresden. After filming the church books, the films are digitized. The digital material can be used online on Archion or in person at the Regional Church Archive Dresden.
The territory of the Protestant-Lutheran Regional Church of Saxony covers the area of the former kingdom resp. free state of Saxony, within the borders of 1945 and without the area around the town of Bogatynia (now Polish). Today, the area of the regional church comprises most of the federal state of Saxony, a smaller part of Thuringia, and the community of Merzdorf in the federal state of Brandenburg.
